OK - I feel a little foolish

So I think I have mentioned on a couple of posts this week that - "I swear I already posted a comment - but when I have come back to the blog - I don't see it." Well I figured out what I was doing . . . DAH . . . double DAH . . . maybe my son was right - I am a little old for this. ????

For the last week I have been using Google Reader to check on blog updates - it seemed pretty easy and it was convenient to check for updates. I realize it wasn't really any easier than viewing either my own blog page or my Dashboard - but I like to try other things, methods or processes to see if there are better ways of doing things.

So for the last week I was checking on blogs that I follow - by looking at Google Reader and if I wanted to comment on a blog entry I would select Share with Note . . . for some reason . . . don't ask me why . . . but I thought that this was the same as commenting on a blog.

Well I looked into Google Reader a little bit more tonight and saw that on the left hand side of the page is a folder titled Your Stuff and under that is a folder called Notes. Yup - I found my "MISSING" comments.

I had my own little ah ha moment.
There were my 11 missing comments - a couple of them were for giveaways.
I feel a little foolish.
But the mystery is solved.

I have also figured out that I can leave comments on blogs from google reader, I just have to press the circle with double arrows located directly after the title of the blog entry - this takes me to the blog entry and then I simply comment.

Always learning!!

Lunch time walk

Since I am letting my stress fracture heal - and have not run for almost 3 weeks - I have been trying to walk at lunch. Normally I eat my lunch at my desk so that I can get more work done.

So here are a few pictures from my walk today. My office is in downtown Madison, one block from Lake Monona and about 5 blocks from the Capitol. I usually head east, through a neighborhood to enjoy my walk. It was super windy today - but warm. Beautiful.

First picture is from my office . . . it looks over our parking lot and off in the distance is Lake Monona.

These are a couple of pictures of the lake along one of the neighborhood streets.

Here were a couple of almost translucent tulips - scattered in a lawn that was not taken care of . . . but the tulips were beautiful.

On my way back to the office I stopped at Madison Sourdough Company for a baguette of sourdough for dinner. I had made Goulash and figured the bread would go really well. It was delicious - cruncy crust and soft inside. (sorry for the blur in lower left hand corner)

Crazy Legs run / walk and Bloggie meet up

Today was the CrazyLegs Classic - an 8K run or 2 miles walk from the State Capital to Camp Randall - with the funds collected supporting UW athletics. 20,450 people were registered - so it is a pretty big race for Madison WI. It was suppose to rain - and I think everyone must have did a great job of praying because the rain stayed away. It rained earlier in the morning and we are suppose to get more ran in the later afternoon. The race weather was actually really good for running. Mid 50's and no rain.

Because of my stress fracture in my foot I did not run. I did do the 2 mile walk with my son's girlfriend - so at least we got to partcipate. Foot was a little sore towards the end of the walk b it is definitely starting to feel better.

Somehow, even with all these people - I saw two people from work - MaryAnne and CJ and two people from my neighborhood, Greg and his daughter Lauren. Shout out to my friend from work, MaryAnne - she cut almost 5 minutes off of her time from last year. Maybe I will be able to do that next year. Hey I have to have goals.

It was my opportunity to meet up with Jame at Running Diva Mom (she needs to be called Running Speedy Diva Mom - because she had an awesome race and Chelsea at EarlyRunner - another speedy racer. We planned to meet up near section "R" - - - Jamie picked "R" for running. . . . easy to remember. Love it. It was great to meet these young women. So vibrant and fun. I realize that I could be either of their mum's . . . and let me just say that I would be proud.

My son and girlfriend were there and also got to meet Jamie and Chelsea. Both of my sons make fun of me for blogging. They think it is . . . in one word . . . weird. They also think it is weird that I have a facebook account. Oh well. On the way back to the car, my son made the comment - that Jamie and Chelsea were obvioulsy a lot younger than me. Duh!!! He went on to say that he guessed that generally older people don't blog. OK - he is my son and I am very old to him. No matter what your parents age, as a child or young adult, you think of your parents as old . . . admit it. But hey - I find the blogging world very interesting - - - people of different ages and backgrounds can come together because of a common interest . . . in this case running.

Here is a picture of me, Jamie, Chelsea on the field at Camp Randall. Next photo is my son and his girlfriend. My son finished in 31:59.

yahoo it is friday

OK - this is a test  . . .  I just downloaded an app for my droid to publish blog entries and upload photo's.  I have tried to type a couple of blog entries and include a photo and each time I have a problem uploading.  So this will only be text and once I get that - I will edit my post and try to add a photo that I took of my lunch - vegie medley.

It works.   BUT IT IS SOOOOO BIG and I can't figure out how to make it smaller. Corrected the size of the picture from home. AND I couldn't find a spell checker.  MUST HAVE SPELL CHECKER.  Maybe best thing is to simply use web for text and blogaway for picture.

Gotta love technology . . . but it would be even better if it always did what I wanted it to do!!!

TOMORROW is the local CrazyLegs Run. They estimate that 20,000 people participate . . . so it is pretty big for Madison. I will not be running the 8K - but might walk 2 miles. I am planning to meet up with two bloggie friends from Madtown . . . Chelsea from Early Runner and Jamie from Running Diva Mom after the race.. . . and I will have my camera. Weather is calling for rain . . . rain, rain, please stay away until the afternoon.

Wednesday Wonders - short and sweet ;-)

Well today is the first day that my foot actually feels better. It has been two weeks to the day, since I hurt my foot - stress fracture of the 2nd metatarsal. I started walking in the "bootie" Monday. Up to this point I was walking with an extremely obvious limp - because it hurt. But as the day progressed I could feel that my foot was feeling much better. Tonight I felt like I was "almost" walking normal. . . well as normal as you can walk with a hard soled bootie on one foot.

I hope everyone stays healthy.

ENJOY the day!

The Recovery Starts

I went to the Orthopedic doctor this morning. The stress fracture is in my 2nd metatarsal bone. I have a little solid soled bootie to wear. The idea is to keep my foot from bending when I walk. I am not under orders to wear the boot - but I need to be careful walking - so I am going to wear it for a week and then make a decision about going back to my shoes - or continue with the boot. He suggested that I need to stay away from running for 4-6 weeks. To be honest he was more concerned about my high arches in my feet. He wanted to make sure that I wore good shoes . . . check and that I replace them frequently . . . check. The bone scan also showed that I previously had a stress fracture of my 4th metatarsal - the Dr. estimated that it probably took place 1-2 years ago. I must have run through it - I don't recall it hurting . . . certainly not enough to go to the doctor.

Anyway - the good news is that I get to ride my bike. I was going to try it out tonight when I got home - but didn't get home very early from work so will try it tomorrow after work.

Stay healthy out there . . . and listen to your body.

The results are in

I called the Dr.'s office this morning - they called me back with the scan results - stress fracture of the 2nd metatarsal. I have an Appointment with the Orthopedic Dr on Monday - until then no running or jogging and wear shoes with solid bottoms.

Bummed - I was really hoping it was something else.

Good luck to everyone running in Boston on Monday

And for anyone running this weekend - run a mile for me.

Take Care

No news . . . ????

OK - the day went by - and no news from the bone scan yesterday. I will probably call tomorrow if I don't hear from them.

;-(

News from the Dr's office - not good

The X-rays were not conclusive - but did indicate a possible fracture - so I am going in tomorrow for a bone scan. When the Dr. pressed and prodded - I felt most of my pain with the second metatarsal - but that wasn't where the possible fracture was indicated on the x-ray. So we will see. To be honest - it felt much better last night.

I went for a walk this morning with my dog and thought about running a block or two to check it out . . . but I didn't. Patience is not one of my virtues.

So I will wait another day to find out.

I will post again - but between you and me - this is one of my biggest fears - bone density issues - as a result of breast cancer, I am on a drug called Arimidex . . . and one of the side effects is loss of bone density. ;-(

Waiting for X-Rays

Ok - as I mentioned in my last post - my foot started hurting last week. I didn't run on Friday or Saturday, figured if it hurt - I should rest it. I ran 5 miles on Sunday - although my foot hurt - it was doable. But once I stopped, I hobbled around for the rest of the day - it hurt. I put ice on it and took ibuprofen a couple times - woke up today still hobbling - and it still hurts.

Soooooo, I called for an appointment - Orthopedics could get me in next week, but I called my primary and was able to see her. I just got back from the Dr. - I had an X-ray and then came back to work and am waiting to hear the results. I am so hoping that Dr. Goggle and all of her Internet wisdom is WRONG. My suspicion is that it is a stress fracture of either the second or third metatarsal. But then again it might be a tendon pull or stretch, or what ever you might do to a tendon. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I will report back with the results.

I am feeling old. ;-(

TGIF

I am sooooooo glad it is friday.

Although I would love to totally relax this weekend - I have several things for church that I have to get done this weekend and I still need to finish our tax return. I am really upset with myself that I haven't gotten it done previously. It is almost done - but I need to find two 1099's for interest. This is so not like me - but it is . . . what it is . . .

Additionally we would like to finish replacing the other sidelight on our front door. The new sidelight is on the left - notice it doesn't have any panes.

MY RIGHT FOOT - has been hurting the last couple of days. I don't know of anything that I did to it. It feels bruised and is tender to the touch on the top of my foot - ????? what the heck ????? Did the google search - self doctoring - about the only thing that I find on the internet is that it could possibly be a stress fracture. That just can't be - I don't really run enough miles. It just can't be . . . it just can't be!!! You have got to be kidding . . .

This is EXACTLY where it hurts. ;-(

I am planning on running tomorrow morning - so we will see. I was planning on a 5 mile run this morning - but thought I would rest my foot - so although it doesn't really feel any different - I am going to try it tomorrow.

Enjoy the weekend.

Tuesday - What are your plans?

Running Plans for this week:

Monday - 5 miles - Avg Pace 9:43
Tuesday - 3.5 miles - treadmill - Avg Pace 9:50
Wednesday - 3.5 miles - treadmill - Avg Pace 9:43 - didn't do what I planned - but that is OK. Plan to run 5 miles - Running Diva Mom and I were going to meet up after work - but considering the temp's are suppose to be in the low 50's - 10-20 mph winds and thunderstorms - we are putting our meet up until next week . . . so that means either run in the morning (if it isn't pouring) or run after work on the treadmill.
Thursday - Did a quick 2 miles this morning - had to get home and help husband with the sump pump that stopped running. I heard it whining when I went downstairs to get my running shoes this morning . . . the switch wouldn't stop the motor - so we need to replace it. ;-( I will try to get 2 more miles in after work. Plan to run 4 miles
Friday - Plan to run 5 miles Rested my foot, since it was hurting
Saturday - Plan to run 3 miles - but since I didn't run on Friday - I am hoping to do 5 or 6 miles
Sunday - Plan to run 6 miles

Easter weekend

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter.

We stayed home and took the three day weekend to do some cleaning. I didn't take any pictures of the before and after - we pulled everything out of the garage and power washed the garage on Saturday. Needless to say - after a winter with the grit and salt - it was really dirty. This afternoon we power washed the screen porch and all of the porch furniture.

My son Joe was home from college on Friday and spent the day installing above and under cabinet LED lighting.

Here are a couple of pictures - my camera isn't the greatest - but you get the idea.

The lighting isn't done yet - Friday was just a trial setup. He took the circuit board with him so he can program the above cabinet lighting. We are going to have the lights turn on via motion detector and the above cabinet lights fade from color to color. He installed red, blue and green LED lights above the cabinets, so we will be able to have multiple colors.

You can't see it - but I have a center island - which is where I do all of my prep work - so I never really thought I cared whether the counters under the cabinets were lit . . . but I have to tell you that I love the way that the kitchen looks with the cabinet lights on.

I ran Friday morning and then attended a 90 minute yoga class. Saturday I ran and took today off. I am anxious to run tomorrow morning. I am planning on 5 miles - 2 with my dog and 3 without.

I hope everyone has a great week.
